Sygt Stærke Drømme – DGI Byen supports young voices

The proceeds from activities in Øksnehallen help make meaningful initiatives possible throughout DGI Byen
– for example, Sygt Stærke Drømme

Sygt Stærke Drømme portrays 12 young people living with serious or chronic physical illness from SygtStærk, who share their dreams for the future in words, images, and sound. Dreams know no bounds – unfortunately, sometimes the system does. That’s something we can and must improve!

That’s why we’re delighted to have helped make it possible for Sygt Stærke Drømme to be exhibited here at DGI Byen, where together with SygtStærk we also celebrated the opening with a moving and powerful vernissage. An evening filled with voices, courage, and hope – right in a house that’s all about community, movement, and opportunity.

A healthy community life with support from DGI Byen

DGI Byen exists to strengthen communities, movement, and well-being. That’s why a portion of the proceeds from activities in Øksnehallen is reinvested to improve the facilities for nearly 65 of Copenhagen Municipality’s institutions and associations who use DGI Byen as their home base.

DGI Byen is Copenhagen’s gathering place for movement, health, and community. In the heart of the city, we bring together more than a million Copenhageners and tourists each year for sports, culture, and experiences. When you use DGI Byen, you’re also giving back – our profits go towards creating more opportunities for movement and community for everyone.

Community, well-being, and lots of creative hours with the city’s childrenHalloween and Autumn Fun

At this year's autumn celebration in front of Øksnehallen, we brought together 300 children and adults for DGI Byen’s free Halloween party. The hall was transformed into a (un)scary world with pumpkin workshops, face painting, and creative activities for the youngest. Around 100 tickets were donated to the Danish National Center for Grief, the Children’s Accident Foundation, and Single Parents – to give more children a shared experience with their families. Maria Blankensteiner, director at Single Parents, says: “We are incredibly happy about our partnership with DGI Byen, which has allowed parents to invite their children to Halloween without having to take money out of their pockets.” Halloween in Øksnehallen shows how DGI Byen’s surplus creates experiences that strengthen well-being, community, and movement in Copenhagen.

Community and public health

Meaningful experiences

DGI Byen provides the setting for a wide range of cultural and health-focused events – both our own and those created by passionate individuals and external organisers.

When Øksnehallen buzzes with life, it's more than just an experience for the participants – it also generates a financial surplus, which we reinvest back into the venue. This makes it possible to keep prices low, open the doors to more people, and ensure excellent facilities for the benefit of the city.
